Person killed after being hit by a train near Bescot Stadium

A person has died after being struck by a train near the Bescot Stadium in Walsall.

British Transport Police was called just after 3.20pm today and attended alongside paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Officers remain at the scene and are working to identify the person and inform their family.

Work is being done in order to determine how this person came to be on the tracks, although the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious.

The incident has caused major disruption between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley.

London Midland said trains are currently not running between Tame Bridge Parkway and Rugeley Trent Valley.

Delays are expected until at least 5pm.
