Firefighters worked to quell the flames which ripped through the home after the lightning storm.

Emergency services were called to the serious fire at a home close to Stone, near Stafford, caused by what crews believe was a lightning strike.

Fire engines from Stone, Loggerheads and Hanley were at the scene in Chatcull Lane.

Crews were called around 1.30pm today after reports that the building was set alight by a bolt of lightning.

The fire has burned through the roof of the home causing some of the structure to collapse.

The firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to get close while using two hose jets to tackle the fire.

Flames are being made more difficult to contain due to a limited water supply in the area and Staffordshire Fire Service’s water carrier is being refilled to put out the blaze.
