Andrew Campbell, aged 48, has been running the Owl Experience Rescue Sanctuary at Haughton, Stafford, for 13 years.

The centre has 55 rescued birds and three European eagle owls belonging to Mr Campbell.

He said: “The European eagle owl is the largest species and this one was abandoned in a box at the side of a road in an emaciated state with its wings clipped.

“We would appeal for the owner to come forward as well as anyone who may have seen the box being dumped so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice.

“The bird is male and between five and ten years old we think and he stands two feet tall and has a wing span of five feet.

"Anyone knowing who is responsible for dumping this owl or with any information can call me at the sanctuary on 07980977717.”
