Dozens of drivers ignore lane closure signs on M6 after crash near Stafford

Lanes three and four were blocked northbound for about 90 minutes after the crash between Junction 12 and 13.

Police tweeted to condemn the dozens of drivers seen ignoring the red 'X' above the closed lanes.

The extent of any injuries is not known.

Highways England tweeted saying: "Lanes 3 and 4 (of 4) blocked on the M6 Northbound between J12 Gailey and J13 Stafford South due to a traffic collision. Police on scene traffic officers on route." CMPG tweeted saying: "We are currently dealing with a collision on the M6 Northbound between junctions 12 and 13.

"Two lanes are closed with a Red X above, unbelievably in excess of 40 vehicles have been witnessed contravening the Red X... all can expect paperwork through the post."
