Boy seriously injured in Stafford pub car park crash

A child has been left with potentially life-changing injuries in a crash in a pub car park in Stafford.

The collision involved a car and a pedestrian, an eight-year-old boy, in the car of park of the King's Horse, Hungry Horse, pub off Newport Road and Kingsway at around 5.50pm yesterday evening.

The boy was rushed to Birmingham Children's Hospital with serious injuries. He was in a stable condition in hospital this morning.

A 32-year-old woman remains in police custody this morning after returning a positive breath test.

Staffordshire Police is now appealing for witnesses following the crash.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Staffordshire Police is appealing for witnesses to a collision in Stafford that resulted in a young boy suffering potentially life-changing injuries.

"An eight-year-old boy was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital where he is currently in a stable condition.

"A 32-year-old woman from Stafford was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a positive breath test. She remains in custody for questioning."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: "When ambulance crews arrived they found the pedestrian, a boy, in a serious condition already receiving first aid by emergency service colleagues and bystanders.

"Ambulance staff and the doctor worked as a team to administer advanced trauma care to the boy before he was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further emergency care.”

One resident who lives near the pub, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "There were police, ambulances and fire engines in the car park, but from where we are it’s difficult to see anything."

Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance base at Cosford with a MERIT doctor on board attended the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting incident reference number 605 of January 22.
