The Stafford Half Marathon has been rescheduled for April 15

Organisers Freedom Leisure said they had ‘regrettably’ decided the event will no longer go ahead but it has been rescheduled for next month.

Event organisers said they had consulted with the local authorities, advisory groups and emergency services and taken into account the best interests of competitors, spectators, volunteers, emergency services and the local community.

The event has been rescheduled to April 15, when all registered runners will be able to participate as per the original schedule.

Geoff Beadle, Freedom Leisure area manager, said: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused but ultimately the safety of all parties is our top priority.

“I guess it is a reminder that we simply cannot control the weather.”

Runners who are no longer able to participate in the race will be able to transfer their place on race day to another runner at no additional cost.

The Maker’s Market, which was set to take place in Stafford on Saturday, has also been cancelled.
