There are two large signs - one either side of the road between the Nationwide and Royal Bank Of Scotland - clearly telling drivers that access is for buses or taxis only.

However, a number of drivers have continued to use Mill Bank as a short cut.

Previously, police had given out warnings to those caught, however they will now be hit with a £100 fine.

Sergeant Darren Burney said: "Drivers have previously been stopped and warned by officers when they have been seen to commit the offence.

"But despite the warnings, dozens of motorists a day are still contravening the signs.

"No further warnings will be given and all offending drivers will be issued with £100 fixed penalty notices."
