Stafford's Victoria Park closed off as man collapses

A park was cordoned off after a man collapsed.

Police stopped members of the public going into Victoria Park in Stafford near to the rail station after the 26-year-old man stopped breathing shortly before 1pm yesterday.

Police officers on a routine patrol of the park came across the man and immediately called for medical attention.

West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances to the scene, and a spokesman said: "We were called at 12.52pm to Victoria Park, Stafford. Two ambulances were sent to the scene

"We transported a 26-year-old man to County Hospital in Stafford. The man was in respiratory arrest when we arrived so advanced life-support was provided."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers on a routine patrol came across a collapsed male just after 1pm. The ambulance service were in attendance following the medical emergency and took the man to County Hospital."

The cordon in Victoria Park was lifted at around 3pm.
