Abigail Smith, from Perton, has called on musicians to get involved in a virtual festival for Children on the Edge.

Abigail Smith made the call to help Children on the Edge to ensure youngsters realise their rights and receive education.

The national charity focuses on those who have been marginalised – with a focus on ensuring children reach their full potential.

The 24-year-old said: "I'm raising money for Children on the Edge which helps children realise their rights.

"The founder is the Body Shop and I'm a Body Shop consultant – that's how I came across it.

"It's really fantastic and what I've been doing – as well as a group of musicians and my friends – is recording music and putting it all together.

"We've got some people on-board at the moment and they sent me up to three videos each – or a whole set – and I'll put that together and make it into the final piece."

The musician – who performed across Wolverhampton – stopped after having her two twins, three-year-old Jonah and Elijah.

But since lockdown she has rediscovered her passion for music – and was determined to use it to help others.

The mother-of-two added: "I started to record videos and put them online before. Since I had children I stopped doing my gigs around Wolverhampton and I feel like I need to start doing that again.

"Lockdown has brought it out in me. I play the guitar mainly and other things – I like to sing as well, anything really as long as it's fun."

All the money raised through the online gig will be handed directly to the charity – with the date for the event confirmed once all videos have been sent in.

And she praised the line-up of muscians playing which includes Jack Smith, Rachael Watkins, Erin Gerber, Megan Reece, Stacey and Andy and Megan Gowman.

Other acts include Louis James, Joshua Carter, Chris Ford, Kat and Andy, Jessica Sherry, Kerrie Jones and Jonathon Price.

People can donate – and send in their videos – by searching "Online gig for Children on the Edge" on Facebook.
