Pregnant horse rescued from cesspit near Codsall

A pregnant horse was rescued by firefighters after it became stuck in a cesspit today.

The mare was saved by Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service after becoming trapped in slurry at a farm near Codsall Wood.

Crews from Cannock and Wombourne attended the scene, along with a vet and the horse's owner.

The service received the first call at 5.28am, with the animal freed at 7.25am this morning.

It tweeted: "Great teamwork from Cannock and Wombourne crews, rescuing a pregnant mare from a slurry pit at a farm near Codsall Wood earlier.

"Lots of patience and great teamwork ensured she was rescued as quickly and safely as possible, and is now recovering."

Crews left the scene just after 7.50am.
