The shell of the home and fire-wrecked BMW and van were left after the fierce fire in Kinver, near Stourbridge.

The roof was completely destroyed and the charred remains of the detached home were visible as dawn broke today.

A couple and their three children were inside the house, in Huntsmans Walk, and raised the alarm shortly after midnight.

They managed to escape without any injuries in time after they discovered the blaze.

Crews from Kinver, Wombourne, Brierley Hill and Stourbridge attended to tackle the flames.

Firefighters worked through the night until 7.30am and used two main jets along with hose reel jet to extinguish it.

An investigation is currently underway to discover how it started.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said of the people who fled the scene: "They were uninjured but were checked over by paramedics at the scene as a precaution."

Crew used two jets to douse the flames as they worked around the clock to bring it under control.

A crew from Dudley fire station came to relive teams this morning. Wombourne crews will stay at the home to conduct checks.
