Laura Perry was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year but after an operation and two lots of chemotherapy, she was told there was no more treatment available.

Her partner Ben Morris, 23, from Penkridge, proposed towards the end of April – and thousands of pounds was raised to help pay for the dream wedding.

She died on May 12 at Compton Hospice, but the pair still had a special ceremony at the Wolverhampton hospice beforehand.

Now, following her funeral at Stafford Crematorium, a celebration of Laura’s life is taking place at Blithbury Reindeer Lodge, near Rugeley, on May 30.

In a tribute, her family said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beautiful, gentle Laura.

“At the same time we have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the many wonderful people that donated to make Ben and Laura’s wish come true.”

Ben added that he would like to say a huge thank you for all the donations and support and that some of the money raised will be used to donate to various cancer charities.

And a collection will be held at the crematorium for donations.

Following her death friends and family of Laura took to Facebook to light a candle in her memory, with dozens taking part. While friends also shared pictures of Laura on a social media group dedicated to her life.

One tribute on Facebook said: “We lit two candles today to commentate your [Laura’s] life. We know you would want us to be happy for the life you had and to celebrate what we shared rather than being sad, because that was the person you were.

"You always cared about everyone before yourself and that’s what made you so special. I don’t know why bad things happen to good people, but we will never forget you.”

Laura, who went to Wolgarston High School in Penkridge, had a place to study geology at the University of Birmingham in September.
