The Rugeley Charter Fair has been cancelled

The Rugeley Charter Fair was due to take place between 12pm to 2pm, with a parade planned from Rugeley Rose Theatre to Green Lane planning fields.

But now Rugeley Town Council has made the decision to cancel the fair due to the weather impacting on public safety.

Cannock Police tweeted out the news and urged people to stay safe.

Rugeley Town Council posted on Facebook: "A site visit took place at 6.30am today to assess the impact of the weather on Charter Fair.

"Unfortunately a number of stalls have had to cancel in order to protect stock, animals and the public.

"The rain is set to be heavy until well into this afternoon and it was agreed that the risk to all involved in charter fair was too high.

"It was a hard decision but public safety must come first.

"Fingers crossed for better weather next year!

"Sorry, Rugeley Town Council."

Stokes' Fun Fair, however, will still be open from 1pm.
