Rugeley Power Station is to be transformed into a 2,000-home estate with public talks over the plans to start next week

A community weekend will be held in Rugeley from November 30 to December 4 with residents able to contribute to shaping the plans.

As part of the plan, electric utility company ENGIE hopes to built a ‘substantial’ number of commercial buildings on the 139-hectare site, bringing in scores of jobs.

Councillor George Adamson, leader of Cannock Chase Council, said: “Clearly plans to develop the power station site are now gathering pace which is pleasing to see.

"I would therefore urge the people of Rugeley to get involved and let ENGIE know their views.

"It’s an important opportunity to help shape the site’s future as the company prepares to submit its application.

“Residents should look out for the leaflet being delivered to households.”

Councillor Ian Pritchard, cabinet member for economic growth, environment & development services at Lichfield District Council, said: “We’d encourage local people to take a look at the plans as part of the community planning weekend and to give their views.

"We look forward to receiving the planning application in the future and working with the developers.”
