The dog, named Scramble, got himself stuck down the hole on a farm in Cannock Chase.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call today at 10.20am to a farm off Chaseley Road, Rugeley, to reports a dog had gone down a fox hole and been stuck for over an hour.

Firefighters had to dig the dog out before re-uniting him with his owner.

Sarah Davison, a spokeswoman for Staffordshire Fire, said: "Crews from Rugeley and Cannock attended and were able to carefully release the dog from the hole (by digging). This was done within 15 minutes.

"Once Scramble was free he was reunited with his owner Sarah."

The fire service was quick to post about its latest rescue on social media. Staffordshire Fire said on Facebook: "Scramble the spaniel had a lucky escape after he got himself stuck down a fox hole in Rugeley.

"Thankfully crews from Rugeley and Cannock came to his rescue and were able to quickly dig him out #NotJustFires."

People praised the fire service for its actions in rescuing the dog.
