Timber sash windows returning to Staffordshire period home converted to private school
A school near Stafford wants has lodged plans to swop its existing UPVC sash windows for timber frames.
Bosses at the Grade listed Longridge School building in Levedale Road, Longridge near Penkridge want to install new painted timber sash windows instead at the period property.
Longridge, a former care home for the elderly, is now an independent school for children with a range of special educational needs including moderate learning disabilities, autism and emotional and behavioural difficulties and who are unable to live in a family home setting. The school is part of the New Reflexions Care Group.
The planning application states: "The proposal seeks to remove the existing UPVC windows in their entirety and replace them with traditional box frame timber sash windows more in keeping with the appearance and character of the property and its surroundings. The timber sash windows have been specifically designed to match the original windows as closely as possible while complying with modern building standards such as required sound and thermal properties.

"This is especially important in a property such as this housing young children. The replacement of the windows is to be split into two phases carried out over a two-year period. Phase one would be to replace the most prominent windows to the north and west elevations with phase two replacing the remaining windows to the south and east elevations."
Longridge House is a late 18th-century Grade II listed Georgian period property. The property, originally a single dwelling, was converted into a care home for the elderly 15 years ago and was converted into a school with boarding facilities and opened its doors following the 2020 pandemic period.
The school was given a 'good' Ofsted rating in February last year after a challenging start.
