Man killed in crash with lorry in Lichfield

A man has died after a crash between a car and a lorry in Lichfield today.

Emergency services were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision in Cappers Lane at around 2.30pm.

The collision involved a red Vauxhall Meriva and a heavy goods vehicle (HGV).

The driver of the Vauxhall died at the scene.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Lichfield.

"Police were called at 2.30pm this afternoon [Wednesday] to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Cappers Lane. The collision involved a red Vauxhall Meriva and a HGV.

"Sadly, a man, the driver of the Vauxhall Meriva, died at the scene. The driver of the HGV was not injured.

"Specialist officers are supporting the man’s family."

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the vehicles beforehand and has relevant dash-cam footage, are asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 364 of February 24.
