The fire at Ridware House, in Hobs Road, was reported to emergency services just after 1pm on November 12.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Lichfield, Tamworth, Rugeley, Barton-under-Needwood and Burton all attended the scene. They extinguished the fire on the third floor of the building and also assisted with the safe evacuation of the residents.

A woman suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Burton for further treatment. As a result of the fire and damage to the building and fire safety compromises – specifically to the fire alarm system, integral fire doors and communal stairwell – the 32 flats were evacuated and Lichfield District Council arranged emergency accommodation.

But on December 2, it was announced residents could now return to their homes.

Glynn Luznyj, director of response for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Residents can now return but there is still significant work that need to take place to ensure the block is fully compliant with fire safety standards.”
