Emergency services were called to Wood End Lane in Fradley, near Lichfield, at 12.20pm yesterday to reports of a collision involving a Ford Transit van and HGV.

The 41-year-old van driver sustained serious injuries and he was taken to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry by air ambulance where his condition is described as critical.

The HGV driver was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital, also with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

The road remained closed whilst specialist officers from Staffordshire & West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out an investigation at the scene and we would like to thank the public for their patience during this time.

If you witnessed the collision or have relevant dashcam footage, contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 289 of January 15.
