The 7ft tall soldier went missing from Greenhill, close to the Duke of York pub in the city between December 24 and 28.

It is one of 12 soldiers introduced by the Lichfield BID around the city last month as part of a seasonal trail.

But last night, a spokesman for Lichfield BID said: "One of the 12 Lichfield Nutcrackers has been taken from his post at Greenhill, close to the Duke of York pub.

"If you saw, or photographed him between those dates please let us know."

Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of the Greenhill Nutcracker is urged to contact police on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org
