Emergency services were called out to a large amount of rubbish on fire on wasteland at the rear of Market Street in Hednesford shortly before 6pm today.

Pictures from the scene showed smoke billowing from behind a building, as residents looked on.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We initially received a few calls to say it was rubbish on fire.

"The fire involved rubbish on wasteland to the rear of Market Street.

"Initially we had four pumps and our water carrier at the scene at the height of the fire, as it was a large amount of rubbish. This was reduced to two pumps afterwards."
