Lyra Davis is battling a condition which causes muscle spasms, hinders her physical movement and speech

Hednesford youngster Lyra Davis, aged two, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and global development delay.

But thanks to more than £20,000 in donations which poured in during 2017, her mother Jane Heggie was able to take her to the Adeli Medical Centre, in the eastern European country last November for rehabilitation.

In the latest update on the dedicated 'Lyra Can' Facebook page, her family said Lyra is now using splints to support her legs while neurologists at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmimigham were due to investigate her MRI scan in more detail to investigate her condition further.

It is now thought the youngster's multiple issues such as muscle spasms, movements problems and speech delay, may have individual causes as opposed to just one, the post states.

Lyra's family are hoping she will be put forward for the 100,000 Genomes Project to improve understanding, diagnosis and treatments for rare diseases and conditions.

They moved to express their gratitude to everyone following her progress and offering financial support.

The post concluded: "Every day is still an adventure with Lyra - some days are full of energy, some days she is still really tied up with spasms.

"She is progressing so well and we’re so proud of how she’s doing.

"Christmas has been amazing - Lyra was able to open some of the presents Santa left and she’s been really interested in some of them.

"We’ll let you know what we’re planning in 2018 soon, but until then thanks for everything you’ve done for us and our family."
