Black smoke pours from Great Wyrley tyre blaze

A fire in Great Wyrley sent plumes of black smoke billowing into the air on Sunday.

Tyre fire at Hazel Lane, Great Wyrley

Firefighters tackled the blaze in Hazel Lane, Great Wyrley, where a large amount of tyres caught fire at around 4pm.

The quick-thinking actions of crews from West Midlands Fire Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue prevented the spread of the fire to a neighbouring factory.

Four crews were in attendance and extinguished the fire using four hose reel jets whilst wearing two breathing apparatus.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted advice out to residents nearby during the blaze, saying: "Keep all windows and doors closed if you are in close proximity due to large amounts of smoke."
