Police and paramedics were seen at the Castle Ring hill fort this afternoon after they were called to an emergency.
Police said a man's body was found and his death is not believed to be suspicious.
Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to a medical emergency on Castle Ring, near to Holly Hill Road, Cannock at 11.42am.
"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one male patient.
"Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers attended an area of Castle Ring this morning following the discovery of a man’s body.
"At this time the death is not believed to be suspicious."
