Philip Taylor, who was a police constable based at Cannock police station, appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre yesterday.

The 28-year-old is charged with six sexual assaults, causing sexual activity without consent, possession of extreme pornographic images and publishing an obscene article.

Taylor, who has not yet entered a plea to the charges, will now appear at Stafford Crown Court on November 9.

He was arrested on May 29 last year by an officer from the force's Professional Standards Department.

At the time of his arrest he was a probationary constable and he was dismissed from the force in February this year.
