Burst pipe sees 'horrendous' sewage running down Cannock road

A burst sewer pipe in Cannock left residents horrified after 'raw sewage' was spotting flowing down a busy main road.

The pipe burst earlier this morning on Walsall Road, just outside the Aldi supermarket.

Resident Penny Gibbs said sewage was 'running all down the road'.

Residents described the smell as 'horrendous'

Cannock priest Father Peter Weatherby also spotted what had happened and took to Twitter to share the news with others.

The priest at the Parish of Saint Mary and St Thomas More said: "Raw sewage currently pouring down Walsall Road in Cannock. It is across both sides of carriageway outside Aldi and smells horrendous."

Severn Trent Water were made aware of the incident at about 11am and worked to get it sorted as quickly as possible.

A spokesman for Severn Trent Water said: "We were made aware of a potential burst sewer pipe on Walsall Road in Cannock and raised this as a priority.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing, and we’ll be working as quickly as possible to get everything back to normal.”
