Bridgtown and District Local History Society will launch 'Bridgtown's Industrial Heritage', a second book in a series of six, at an annual event next week.

It details the industries such as Cornelius Whitehouse, William Gilpin, plus many others who were key in the development of the village, and a selection of photographs is included.

The series will tell the history of the area from before the creation of the village in 1861 to the present day.

Derrick Middleton, secretary of the society, said: "The first book was about the First World War and the impact that it had on the village.

"This book is about the industrial heritage. Everyone in the village has a grandmother or an aunty who worked at these places it talks about

"The book was put together by David Williams, the joint chairman, and the group took part in research.

"We're trying to make a definitive history of the village across the six books.

"The main function of the book is to give people the opportunity to have all the information in one place, all the history of the industries.

"It's our only source of income and would be an ideal Christmas present."

New photographs of the village will be displayed at the event plus a selection of 'Old Cannock' from David Battersby’s collection.

The event will be held at the Bethel Chapel in Union Street on December 2 from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Extra car parking will be available at the school in Longford Road.

Admission is free and refreshments are available. About 600 books will be available at a price of £6 each.
