Two men try to break into Tesco in Heath Hayes

Two people clambered on to a Tesco and tried to break through the roof to get into the cash office.

The incident happened at the superstore on Hayes Way in Heath Hayes around 10.30pm on Monday.

Staffordshire Police confirmed CCTV captured the shadows of two people.

They failed to gain entry but the roof was left damaged.

Lydia Hooley, community engagement officer, said: "We are appealing for witnesses following reports of an attempted burglary in the Heath Hayes area of Cannock on Monday evening (8 January).

"At around 10.30pm two offenders have climbed onto the roof of the Tesco Superstore in Hayes Way and made holes in the roof in an attempt to gain access to the cash office.

"We would urge anyone with any information, or anyone who saw suspicious persons in the area to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 182 of 9 January. Alternatively please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
