Car crashes into gas substation causing leak and road closure in Chasetown

A gas leak closed a road after a car crashed into a substation in Burntwood.

Firefighters and police were called to High Street in Chasetown at about 6pm yesterday.

The car had left the road and crashed into the substation, causing a leak.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted last night saying: "We are at a road traffic collision where a car has left the roadway and struck a gas substation in Burntwood area. We are working with Cadent Gas Ltd and Staffordshire Police as the local area has been closed off due to a gas leak. Please avoid the area."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to High Street in Chasetown shortly after 6pm last night to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision. We attended to assist with a road closure. No one was hurt."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to High Street in Chasetown shortly after 6pm last night to reports of a gas leak following a single vehicle road traffic collision.

"Crews from Lichfield and Cannock attended and remained on standby - supporting colleagues at Cadent Gas and Staffordshire Police where necessary."
