Tony Sorroll first met Sylvia at the Barker Brothers' Silversmiths factory on Constitution Hill in Birmingham, where they both worked.

The pair tied the knot in 1960 at Ashton Parish Church – and celebrated their milestone achievement on July 27 amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Tony and Sylvia, originally from from Erdington and Aston in Birmingham but now living in Burntwood, have three children, five grandchildren and five-great-grandchildren – soon to be six.

Mr Sorroll said: "We bumped into each other on the stairs. I was going down and she was coming up – we joke it was love at third sight.

"We celebrated on July 27 and we were going to have a party, but because of the lockdown we obviously cancelled it because the family wouldn't have come.

"We had a low-key celebration, just with our three children, but if it hadn't been for this virus we would've had a large garden party to celebrate."

The couple moved to Burntwood in 1977 as their family started to grow – with more room needed for their three children.

But what is their secret to a happy marriage? "Do as your told, basically," Tony said.

"She gives her point of view, I give my point of view, and we've come to the point of view that she's right. It saves us a lot of time," he joked.
