Wolverhampton biker dies in crash on the A5

A motorcyclist died after a collision along the A5.

Emergency services were called to the busy route between Muckley Corner and Wall Island, near Burntwood.

The biker, aged 52 and from the Wolverhampton area, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The road was closed for a number of hours from about 8.15pm on Tuesday while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We were called by the ambulance service at 8.20pm last night to reports that a collision had taken place between a car and a motorcycle on the westbound carriageway of the A5 between Wall Island and Muckley Corner, near Lichfield.

"Sadly the motorcyclist, a 52-year-old man from the Wolverhampton area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The road remained closed for around seven hours, and we would like to thank motorists for their patience while a detailed examination of the scene was completed.

"Officers from Staffordshire Police's Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage of the incident to come forward."
