'Loud bang' turns out to be bird hitting railway cables

A 'loud bang' reported to police by a number of residents turned out to be a bird hitting overhead cables on a railway line.

Staffordshire Police received a number of calls after the bang, and posted online to reassure residents.

Officers said a bird struck electrified cables in the Burnthill area.

Staffordshire Police posted on Facebook saying: "We have received reports of a loud bang on the Hednesford to Rugeley railway line in the Burnthill area of Rugeley this evening.

"This has been confirmed as a bird striking overhead electrified cables."
