Woman seriously injured after M6 crash between car and lorry

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash between a lorry and car on the M6 today.

The female driver was cut free from her car which was left a crumpled wreck after the crash between Junction 12 for Cannock and Junction 13 for South Stafford.

The lorry driver was assessed by paramedics but discharged at the scene.

The motorway was closed off to motorists as emergency services descended on the motorway at 12.40am.

Staffordshire Police is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We treated one woman, the driver of the car, for serious injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

"She had to be cut free from the car with the help of the fire service and was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital. The lorry driver, a man, was assessed and discharged at the scene."

A police spokesman said: "The incident involved one female casualty who was taken to hospital with serious injuries where she remains at this time.

"Witnesses or anyone with any information are asked to Staffordshire Police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting incident number 21 of October 21.
