Michael Hirsch, aged 57, was pulled from the water at Stowe Pool in Lichfield on Monday. It was the third open water death in the West Midlands in just over a week, following tragedies at Chasewater Reservoir in Burntwood and Shavers End Quarry near Stourport.

Mr Hirsch, who was from Lichfield, was taken to hospital but died a short time later. Staffordshire Police has said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The force said that incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) "due to previous police contact".

It came after Carl Storer, aged 21, died while trying to rescue a nine-year-old girl at Chasewater. An 18-year-old boy then died after entering the water at Shavers End Quarry.
