The move marks the next stage in the long process to redevelop the power station site. Plans have already been lodged with Cannock Chase District Council, as the site is split between the two areas.

Documents have been prepared for councillors as a "precursor" to a full report later in the process. Members have been told that now is an opportunity to "raise issues" with the scheme.

Employment space and a primary school will also form part of the development.

The first stages of the demolition of the former power station have taken place, while the other main structures, including boiler house, chimney and cooling towers are scheduled for controlled collapse through the remainder of 2019 and 2020 and the complete demolition of the site is expected in 2021.
