A total of 546 entered Katharine House Hospice's first Extreme Warrior event which took place on Sunday.

Participants got down and dirty in the mud, went uphill and down across obstacles, water and giant inflatables and raised in excess of £40,000 for vital care.

A mighty 5k and extreme 10k course with 17 obstacles tested supporters on Stafford Common.

Events fundraiser Lisa Carson said: “It was an incredible fun event, we were blown away by the positive feedback. Thanks to everyone who took part we have raised a whopping £40,000 plus to support our vital free care. This is a record for us and true achievement for our wonderful warriors.”

Extreme Warrior was sponsored by Western Power Distribution. WPD Stoke distribution manager, Andy Pickering said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Katharine House’s new venture and hope it will bring the community together and raise lots of money for a very worthy cause.”

Katharine House Hospice provides free care and support for adults and their families who are coping with progressive illness across mid-Staffordshire. It relies upon the kindness of the local community to help generate over two thirds of the funds needed to run its vital range of services.
