Funeral held for Staffordshire firefighter who died in crash

A funeral has been held for an off-duty Staffordshire firefighter who died after a motorcycle crash.

Alex Taylor, from Penkridge, had been riding his Suzuki GSXR motorcycle towards Burton on the A515 at Newhaven when he collided with a Skoda Octavia and a Nissan Navara at around 11.55am on March 5.

He received serious injuries and despite best efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene.

Today colleagues of the 31-year-old joined his family and friends at his funeral at St Michael's Church in Penkridge.

The flag at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service headquarters was lowered to half mast and a minutes silence was held at 1.30pm today to coincide with the time of the funeral.
