Thousands flock to Great British Food Festival at Weston Park

Thousands braved the uncertain bank holiday weather forecast to get a taste for the very best of food at its finest at a festival held at Weston Park.

More than 75 different traders showcased their goods at the Great British Food Festival on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, among them artisan food producers and street food vendors.

Tasty treats to pick up at the popular event included jams, cakes, cheese, sausages, vegetables, sweets, breads, pickles and olives.

Along with a number of food and drink producers, there was a great line-up of bands performing, chef demonstrations, foodie talks, man vs food competitions, a Cake Off competition, children's entertainment and a bake stage.

The Chef Demo stage hosted a headline name for each day, with former Great British Bake Off stars Jane Beedle, Frances Quinn and Julia Chernogorova and Master Chef star Lindsay Evans, all hosting demonstrations over the three-day weekend.

Alongside the celebrity chefs, some of the best regional talent showcased their skills – with budding chefs learning baking tips to fine dining know-hows. There was also regular artisan foodie talks, foraging walks and a drinks 'Masterglass' stage.

Verity Sharples, event manager, said: "It has been a great event at Weston Park, with at least 10,000 people attending the festival over the three-day weekend. We have had a mixture of artisan products on sale for visitors to take home with them – anything from brownies to biltong, to chilli products and cooking sauces.

"It has been a really popular event for us and people have enjoyed it. The forecast let us down a little bit, but we had lovely weather up until 4pm on Sunday when we had the huge downpour. We have been very lucky really.

"It has been a great success as it is only our second year at Weston Park with really lovely visitors giving us great feedback. We will definitely be back for a third year in 2019."
