Staffordshire man Tom Lloyd lost his life on Tuesday, September 27.

The 24-year-old from Lichfield, had been canoeing along the river at Aberglaslyn, near Beddgelert.

Emergency services descended on the scene, including mountain rescue and underwater search teams, but nothing could be done to save Mr Lloyd who was a Bangor University student.

A post-mortem concluded he died of drowning.

The inquest, held in Caernarfon, north Wales, on Tuesday ruled the death as an accident.

A fundraising page set up by Mr Lloyd's friend Rachael Lamb generated more than £2,000 in donations for a memorial in his honour.

Ms Lamb said: "I've set this up in honour of a fantastic friend, who was taken from us all way too soon. Good old Tom Lloyd. Was always a fantastic friend to every one. Full of life and always willing to help in any way he could.

"This is being set up so we can do something to honour his memory. "Be it a plaque, charity donation or a combination of several things. R.I.P. Mate."
