Darryl Griffiths raised more than £1,000 with his Netflix binge

Darryl Griffiths, who works at the media centre completed a twelve-hour Netflix movie marathon on April 4 to support the independent venue.

He said: “As a registered charity, the Light House relies heavily on the generosity of the public, and due to council cuts and the impact of COVID-19, we need donations to keep the venue running.

“I have worked at the Light House for five years and class it as my second home. The place has always been there for me when my confidence was at its worst. All the staff and customers are so devoted to the centre and you just feed off the energy they give.

“I wanted to do my utmost to keep it going and in the current climate this is a way I can give back. “

“Given the circumstances and the fact that the original target was only £300, to raise £1,292 with little over 100 backers of the campaign is amazing. It truly shows people’s generosity and I cannot thank our supporters enough at this undoubtedly challenging time.”

The marathon consisted of twelve films chosen by the first twelve people to donate to the fundraiser.

These films included the Money Pit, Dunkirk, Whisper of the Heart and Perks of being a Wallflower which Darryl is most looking forward to re-watching.

As well as working as a front of house staff member at the Light House, Darryl also reviews films on the entertainment website; JumpCut Online.

The 30-year-old also vlogged in between films to keep followers updated with his progress on Facebook.
