Man taken to hospital after horse-drawn cart crash in West Bromwich

A man was rushed to hospital after the horse-drawn cart he was travelling in crashed on a busy West Bromwich road.

The cart, which was being pulled by two horses, hit a lamppost before ploughing into railings in All Saints Way, at its junction with Parsonage Street.

A man was taken to Sandwell General Hospital, with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

Emergency services rushed to the scheme, near to McDonald's, at around 2.50pm on Sunday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called by the police to outside McDonalds on All Saints Way, West Bromwich, shortly before 3.00pm on Sunday.

"An ambulance a critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance attended and treated a man who had sustained injuries not thought to be life threatening. He was taken to Sandwell Hospital for further checks."

West Midlands Fire Service also sent four firefighters from West Bromwich station to the scene, who led the two horses to safety.

A spokesman for the fire service added: "The incident involved two horses and a cart. The cart had collided into a lamppost and then crashed into railings at the junction with Parsonage Street.

"One man was taken to Sandwell General Hospital.

"The horses were led to safety by the firefighters before the owner of the stables collected them."
