Persimmon Homes wants to build 132 homes on land off Phoenix Street

Persimmon Homes have submitted a planning application to Sandwell Council to build 132 homes on land off Phoenix Street.

The application also includes the demolition of existing factory buildings and associated roads, car parking, open space and associated works.

The proposed homes will include 16 two-bed apartments, as well as 12 four-bed, 68 three-bed and 36 two-bed houses.

West Bromwich Councillor Bawa Singh Dhallu has welcomed the application, which he said will address a need for more housing in the town.

Beneficial

He said: "The population in West Bromwich is increasing so we need to be building more homes. It will be a beneficial application to the town to deal with the housing need.

"More and more homes and flats need to be built in West Bromwich so we will welcome it. I am really, really pleased they plan to build houses there and hopefully the application will be approved."

Documents, submitted with the application, state: "The proposal comprises 132 residential dwellings, of a varying size and house type, including detached, semi-detached, terraced dwellings and apartments. The units range from two and two-and-a-half storeys high with the apartment block proposed to be four storeys high.

"Each dwelling has at least one parking space with the majority including room for 2 cars, Most spaces are provided off street.

"The site performs a social role by providing market housing to meet a need in Sandwell. A percentage of affordable housing will also be provided on site, if viable.

"The mix of accommodation contains houses for firsttime buyers, those wishing to down-size or small families. The scheme will provide local people with another housing choice to further the aim of maintaining a balanced, mixed community."

A decision will be made on the planning application in the coming months.
