Man and kitten rescued after West Bromwich flat blaze

A man and his kitten were saved by firefighters after a blaze.

Crews were called to a small kitchen fire in a flat in Bilhay Lane, Black Lake, West Bromwich, just before midnight today.

Firefighters from West Bromwich and Wednesbury attended.

A fire service spokesman said: “Two firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet worked to tackle the fire, with a positive pressure ventilation fan being used to clear the property of smoke.

“Gas and electrics of the property were also isolated.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended.

One ambulance and two paramedic officers were sent to the incident.

The ambulance service said one patient was treated but not taken to hospital.
