Man injured after car hit by Midland Metro tram

A man was taken to hospital after his car was hit by a Midland Metro tram.

The crash took place at Swan Lane, in West Bromwich.

The man, aged 20 who was the driver of the car, managed to free himself before he was taken to Sandwell Hospital with head and neck pain.

A 21-year-old woman, who was a passenger on the tram, was assessed by ambulance crews on the scene.

The crash took place at 7.30pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called by police to Swan Lane where a car and tram were in collision.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended.

"The driver of the vehicle managed to get himself out of the car. He had some head and neck pain and was immobilised and taken to Sandwell.

"The passenger from the tram had lower back pain but was discharged at the scene."

A photograph taken from the scene showed a white car sat stationary in front of a Midland Metro tram.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene.
