Residents and shop owners at the Park Lane and Manor House Road junction in Wednesbury have made the plea after a series of accidents.

Karen Rowley, who works at Park Lane pharmacy, started the petition after declaring “enough is enough”.

She said: “We’ve got two schools nearby and it’s very busy – come rush hour no-one can get anywhere.

"It’s quite a dangerous road. I can remember about five big accidents because they come flying down the road.

"It’s like a crossroads, so people are being confident and obviously some don’t make it. It’s a nightmare junction.”

The 48-year-old, from Wednesbury, said it was an accident waiting to happen.

She said: “A total of 360 have signed it. We’ve only had it for a week and we’ve now passed it onto the council. It’s dangerous.

"Do we wait until someone is killed before we do something? Because it’s an accident waiting to happen. Safety measures are definitely needed.”

Ms Rowley said it was “amazing” to get the amount of backing already received.

She said: “Where we are at the pharmacy we have a big window, so we see everything that happens at the junction.”

The petition is set to be reviewed by the council after the local elections on May 2.
