Doris died in January aged 96 years old after testing positive for Covid-19 and her funeral took place in Tipton last month.

A fundraising page was set up in her memory in aid of the Beacon Centre for the Blind, in Sedgley – a charity close to Doris's heart after they helped look after her husband for more than 20 years when he lost his eyesight suddenly.

And the family have since revealed it has raised more than £8,300 including Gift Aid.

Writing on their Facebook page called Lil & Doris, Lil said: "I can’t believe it’s been eight weeks since we lost my twin sister Doris.

"It’s not been easy but I’ve tried to make good out of a bad situation by raising money for a local charity that was close to her heart.

"We have now raised over £8,300 including gift aid in memory of Doris.

"Thank you to everyone who has donated to this worthy charity Beacon Centre it means more than you will ever know.

"We knew that her followers wanted to send cards and flowers so instead we started the fundraising page thinking we would raise a few hundred pound, we increased the target as it went on and can’t believe we have now raised thousands.

"I know Doris would be extremely touched by all the kind people who have donated and left messages of condolence."

The fundraising page will close tomorrow.
