Person killed after being struck by train in Tipton

A person has died after being hit by a train in the Black Country.

The incident happened at Tipton Station

Emergency services were called to Tipton Station at about 7.40pm on Saturday, following the incident.

Trains running through the area were cancelled or delayed for more than an hour as a result.

The death is being treated as non-suspicious.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the Tipton area on Saturday, April 13, after reports that a person had been struck by a train. The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

"The ambulance service confirmed that the person was deceased at the scene. British Transport officers are currently working to identify the person and notify their next of kin. A file has been prepared for the coroner."

The train involved was the 6.04pm service from Liverpool Lime Street to Birmingham New Street. Services following were either cancelled or delayed during the evening, and passengers were asked to use replacement bus and Metro services.

The line was free again by about 8.35pm.
