The Tipton Conservative and Unionist Club was a fixture of the town for more than a century before closing in 2016. Plans for 14 homes have now been lodged.

The building has stood empty for the past three years but now looks set to be brought back to life. The club will be converted to seven one-bedroom properties and seven two-bedroom properties, if the proposals are given the go-ahead.

Tipton Conservative & Unionist Club on Union Street was a flour mill before becoming a Conservative club in 1909.

During its heyday it had around 3,000 members and hosted some of the Tory party's big names, including former leader William Hague, ex Deputy Prime Minister Michael Heseltine and Wolverhampton MP Enoch Powell.

The plans will now be assessed by council officers with a decision expected in the coming months.
