Parents of Wednesbury Oak Academy students were called in to pick them up several hours earlier than usual following reports of a gas leak on Monday.
But the cause for concern is still under investigation after an inspection carried out by Cadent Gas Ltd, which received 400 calls reporting a gas-like smell over Tipton and Birmingham, only uncovered a trace of gas in two properties.
We dealt with 400 calls yesterday re: a gas-like smell in #Tipton and #Birmingham. The smell doesn't seem to be linked to our gas pipes or #natural gas or the gas work in #AlexandraRoad,Tipton. We're still investigating the cause @ExpressandStar @DudleyNews1 @WeAreBCR @bbcwm

Gas-like smell in #Tipton seems to have subsided today. It's not linked to natural gas & we're still investigating the cause but if you smell gas always call 0800 111 999 (all calls may be recorded and monitored) @ExpressandStar @DudleyNews1 @WeAreBCR @bbcwm

Experts say the gas trace found during the inspection ‘would not have caused such a widespread smell’ and that the smell is not linked to their gas network.
The academy confirmed it had opened as usual today.
