Pensioner dies after falling ill while driving in Tipton

A man in his 70s has died after his car hit two parked cars when he fell ill in Tipton.

The incident happened at 8.35am this morning in Alexandra Road and led to the route being closed for most of the morning.

Police and ambulance crews were in attendance.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Police were notified by the ambulance service that a man was taken ill while driving his car in Alexandra Road at 8.35am this morning.

"Sadly the man, believed to be in his 70s, was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

"The car was in collision with two parked, unoccupied cars, causing the road to be blocked. No other people were injured."

The road was closed from Upper Church Road and Horsely Road until midday.
